Why Indian drumstick for export

India produces over 70% of the world's drumstick (moringa pods), with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka contributing the majority of export-grade supply. The country's dry semi-arid zones produce pods with the long, straight, tender profile that GCC retail and South Asian diaspora markets demand.

Drumstick is calibrated for export by length (typically 30–45 cm standard, 45–60 cm premium) and tenderness (snap-test grade — pods that bend without snapping are rejected as fibrous). Sourced fresh and cold-chained within 24 hours of harvest, drumstick can hold quality for 14–18 days in transit.

ZoeM works with grower clusters in Dindigul (Tamil Nadu) and Tumkur (Karnataka) — both districts have a long history of contract supply to South Indian wholesale markets. Our packhouses pre-cool to 8–10°C, sort by length, and pack in vented corrugated cartons of 5 or 10 kg.

Certifications & quality control

Every shipment is certified, lab-tested, and traceable to its source. This is non-negotiable for our buyers and forms the spine of our supplier relationships.

FSSAIFood Safety & Standards Authority of India license
GAPGood Agricultural Practices — farm-level certification

NABL Lab TestingPre-shipment testing at NABL-accredited Indian labs

Pre-shipment lab testing — every shipment ships with a NABL-accredited lab report covering relevant quality and safety parameters for the product type (moisture, residues, microbiological, density, colour, etc.). The report travels with the shipment documentation.

Phytosanitary & fumigation — we arrange Indian Plant Quarantine Department phytosanitary certificates and any required pre-shipment fumigation per the importing country’s regulations.

Traceability — we record source farm, packhouse, processing date and container number for every shipment.

Buyer questions

Frequently asked questions

What length grades are available?
Two standard grades — 30–45 cm and 45–60 cm. Custom length requirements possible on bulk orders.
Is drumstick available year-round?
Yes. India's climate supports year-round production with peak quality March–June and September–December. Lean periods are managed via overlapping production zones.
Are pods tested for tenderness?
Yes. Every batch is snap-tested at the packhouse. Pods that fail (excessive fiber or stringiness) are rejected before packing.
What is the shelf life?
14–18 days at 8–10°C with 90–95% RH from packhouse to destination. Pre-cooling at the packhouse is critical.
How many MT in a 40' container?
Approximately 8–10 MT per 40' RFC HC — drumstick is a low-density product, so volume rather than weight is the constraint.
Which destinations work best?
GCC (UAE, Saudi, Oman, Bahrain), Singapore, Malaysia, and the South Asian diaspora markets in UK / Canada / Australia. Cold-chain integrity throughout is critical.
What certifications do you have?
APEDA registered, FSSAI licensed, GAP-certified source farms, phytosanitary certificate per shipment.
